my kundalini reiki 2 attunement experience day 2.10

on the tenth day of reiki my meditation gave to me....jk
i meditated again in the morning and tried to keep my mind clear, but then i started playing with my hands and energy, trying to get both my hands to rotate counter clockwise at the same time and trying to feel the energy between them. i was also concentrating on quigong breathing, but holding my breath for a couple of seconds in between each inhale and exhale. i was also trying to channel energy throughout my whole body and radiate it out of me, it was tiring... i felt relaxed afterwards though...

my kundalini reiki 2 attunement experience day 2.9

i meditated early this morning, the ninth day of kundalini reiki meditation after attunement nr 2 (looking forward to day 14, attunement number 3, 13 days after attunement 2). i tried to imagine myself going out of my body and running away and doing whatever i wanted. a liberating thought. i just felt calm and clear minded.

my kundalini reiki meditation experience day 2.7 + 2.8

last night i did my meditation in bed and fell asleep shortly after i started. sorry nothing to report =)

today i did my eight day meditation and had a very clear mind i felt. i tried not to think, but i thought about a couple of things anyways. nothing notable to report, just calmness.

the case for a creator

in the movie the case for a creator there is something im having a hard time grasping:
they propose that darwinism cannot be true because:
a) if you put everything needed for life into a test tube, you cant generate life
b) the cambrian explosion, lack of evidence in the fossil record (but this has nothing to do with this post)

Q. how can they then propose that the universe had a beginning, that all matter in the universe came from nothing (the singularity theory) when they just proposed that life on earth couldnt have come from nothing?

god would have to exist outside of the universe then.

update: i watched more and yes they said exactly what i was thinking, they are proposing god exists outside of the universe and that he created it out of nothing.

this goes against the conservation of energy. singularity theorists would have to change their theory and say that god created the universe out of something else, but not from nothing.

but then i found this page, evidence for the big bang where it says that it is not a contradiction.

update 20100331113500:
i finally finished watching the whole video. probably the biggest thing i got out of the video was that most (all?) information we can find on earth can be traced back to some form of intelligence that created it, so what does that imply about information contained in dna? good food for thought.

one thing i didnt like about the video was lee strobel's assumption that since there might be a god, then christianity is true. he said something as a fact in the movie which i thought was pretty ridiculous: "god himself is invisible, he is a spirit..." (~ 55:20)
where the *heck* did this come from? strobel goes from investigating the case for a creator to then concluding that god does exist, god is a *he* AND he is invisible and is a spirit? pretty unscientific conclusion to an otherwise interesting semi-scientific investigation.

my kundalini reiki meditation experience day 2.6

this time it lasted 9 minutes as well. i kept seeing myself taking care of my wife after she became handicap and couldnt walk or talk. her head hung a little to the side and she kind of drooled. i hope to god it was just my imagination going wild. images like me feeding her, changing her diaper and holding her up to dance with her, sitting and watching tv together, it actually gave me a feeling of deeper love for her, it sounds weird, but i think i would be able to handle it quite well, with help obviously, but again, i hope it was just my imagination, i wouldnt want her to have to live like that, i would be more worried about her than myself in that situation...and probably one of my biggest fears would be me becoming handicap like that and having my wife have to take care of me like i was a big baby. i giver her permission to "accidentally" take my life if that ever happens to me =)

the 9 minutes of "meditation" went by super fast.

astrology 101 - what is astrology?

astrology with jan spiller describes astrology very well, imo, with the following text:
Astrology is an objective study of the individual. Individuality, from an astrological point of view, is the expression of urges we all feel in common (the Planets), filtered through a unique style or temperament (the Signs), activated by an arena of life that is important to us (the Houses).

Personal identity is further defined by the way the urges within us are interacting (the Aspects). Character - our values - is the way we USE the map of individuality depicted by the birth chart.

i am going to be using some time to understand the basics of astrology since the lemegeton (solomonic magick, and probably most of magick in general) utilizes astrology.

my kundalini reiki meditation experience day 2.5

this is my fifth day of cleansing meditations after attunement 2. this time i attempted to not think anything the entire time. i eventually had to breathe audibly and focus on the breathing sound to help me with that task. eventually around the 7 minute mark i started to feel an ease of flow of energy/air through my upper body that got stronger and stronger until about the last 20 seconds and then i stopped at exactly 9 minutes.

Sunday 24 January 2010

my kundalini reiki meditation experience day 2.4

i did this one in bed laying down before i went to sleep. it seemed to last a while, i thought about many different things; my goals and other thoughts. i cant remember anything extraordinary.

Q. i am also wondering if i should be thinking about anything at all or just trying to keep my mind blank?

Saturday 23 January 2010

my kundalini reiki meditation experience day 2.3

yesterday i got home really late and was tired, but i decided to meditate anyways. it seemed like it was pretty easy to get right into a clear state of mind and i started to think about my goals right away, or rather just repeating them over and over to myself in my mind. after 8 minutes i felt like i was jerked right out of the meditation. it was interesting. i dont know if it was because i was starting to sleep, but i felt like i was pretty awake the whole time, but anyways that was my experience this time..

Q. how did the angels minister unto jesus?

in the new testament, after jesus' temptation, it says:
Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Q. what did the angels do? give him food? encourage him with words? give him a massage?

my kundalini reiki meditation experience day 2.2

this is day 2 after my kundalini reiki attunement number 2. the manual says that attunement 3 should happen at least 10 days after number 2. the manual also says:
You should use this meditation every day to get the greatest effect from your vibrational rinsing and energy channel cleansing process.
this is the second time i am doing the kundalini reiki meditation. this time i felt pretty relaxed and as it progressed i felt like i was getting warmer and warmer and at the end i was pretty warm. this one lasted 17 minutes, but a couple of those minutes i was watching psychic kids to see what an energy channeling expert was saying, but still trying to meditate at the same time. i started getting warmer after i was done watching those couple of minutes of that show and while i was thinking about my current goals, wanting:
* the power to choose patience instead of anger
* the power to choose kind words instead of ridicule
* the power to turn off my sexual desires

when i started repeating these "out loud" in my mind i kept getting warmer and warmer.

Wednesday 20 January 2010

my kundalini reiki meditation experience day 2.1

this is the meditation suggested to do after doing the second attunement. i felt pretty much nothing and struggled to get thoughts out of my head, but then i decided to try and call upon bael and ask to find help learning how to become invisible, but then i felt that that wasnt my first and utmost desire right now and i talked out (with help from him? i dont know, i just felt my thoughts were guided) what i have come to realize is my greatest desire right now (right behind becoming financially independent):
the power to choose patience instead of anger
the power to turn off sexual desire when it cannot properly be expressed

just knowing this gives me the correct direction for my life right now. thank you kundalini reiki (and god and/or bael if you helped. i mention god because i feel many times he directs my thoughts and gives me answers to questions through my thoughts).

my kundalini reiki 2 attunement experience day 2.0

i did the kundalini reiki attunement number 2 yesterday, exactly 2 days after number 1. to tell the truth, i didnt experience very much, although one time i felt my body shake once, but i dont know if it was because i was falling asleep or what, but i dont remember falling asleep, i just remember a big shaking in my body for a split second. i didnt feel the waves of energy like i did in the first attunement. another interesting thing that happened was, i saw the clock/time before i started, the manual said it would take between 20-30 minutes, and when i felt it was over i opened my eyes and the attunement had taken 29 minutes. btw i was laying on my back on the ground in this one whereas attunement number 1 i was sitting upright on the couch.

marx, christianity and the afterlife

in an article on defending voodoo and why there was a bit about karl marx and his criticism of christianity:
Marx's critique of Christianity was that by getting people to concentrate on the afterlife, they would tolerate the oppressions which Marx so detested in the early capitalism of England in the early and mid-1800s.
i have also independently made this same observation in my own life. i sometimes find myself justifying laziness because "we're all going to die some time and when we do, things will be so much better".

my kundalini reiki 1 situation healing experience

i just tried a kundalini reiki 1 situation healing to heal my impatience. i didnt feel much energy at the beginning, but a little bit a couple of minutes into it, but was really interesting were other ideas that popped up. i got an idea about a way to hide information, if you could somehow write/imprint information on an atom or super small molecule and you would need an electron microscope to magnify it and read the information. i'm sure the concept of writing really small text isnt new, but it was for me. i also felt i was moving on to some other level of consciousness (or after death?) and i stood next to a bronze/dark gold looking statue with a twirling/spiraling arm/pole raised towards heaven with a hight of infinity (or what seemed to be never ending) up into a white cloud of light. it was like an elevator that took me up up up and i could never see the end of it, it just disappeard into light high above my head. all of the sudden i saw what looked like floors we were passing and it stopped at a floor with a pink cushion. i was supposed to get off and sit on that cushion, facing the elevator "shaft" and when i did that the two close walls next to me and everything else just faded into light and i was in my own world. the operation, according to the manual, is supposed to last from around 3-5 minutes. i think i used about 10-15 minutes. i just let the meditation continue. meditating is fun, its kind of like dreaming, which i love to do.

my kundalini reiki 1 attunement experience

i read the kundalini reiki manual and decided to try the kundalini reiki 1 attunement operation.

i felt calm during about the first 8 minutes, but really didnt feel any energy coming into my body as described in the manual. most of the time i found myself trying to fight off thoughts and singing inside my head so i decided to start breathing how i learned from a qigong video; stomach expands on inhale and contracts on inhale. i was exhaling out through my mouth to create a rhythmic audible noise to focus on. i pretty much got the music out and then i started having thoughts of sex and was trying to fight them off and push them out. once i let myself just think the thoughts instead of fighting them i felt great waves of energy flow into my body into the top of my head and down to my waist. it was like each time i inhaled i felt like i was opening the top of my head and when i exhaled my body would be filled with energy (or it was sucked/pushed in). it was pretty interesting. the operation lasted about 25 minutes.

evidence: the case for nasa ufo's gives ideas for viewing spirits

this is very interesting:
part 1: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-100779795336284583
part 2: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8524267568796529301

one key principle david sereda talks about is how ufos are vibrating at speeds (wavelengths) in some instances that are far greater than what the human eye can see (near ultra violet and above). since spirits exist and are all around us, what david suggests about ufos tells me that a spirit is vibrating outside visual light frequencies for normal humans, whether it be infrared or ultraviolet; humans normally only see between red and violet. now if you could get someone who can perceive spirits, pinpoint a particular area, (or how about observing a dying person/animal?) then film with cameras capable of capturing ultraviolet and infrared light, maybe we could see spirits on camera. this also begs the question:

Q. for people who can literally see spirits, is the viewers visual capacity changed to be able to pick up these humanly-out-of-range light frequencies or can spirits change their own vibration frequencies bringing them into humans visual range? i am leaning towards the first possibility since i have seen documentaries of people who say they can see something while others present dont see what they are seeing. unless it then is a combination of a spirit shifting its vibrations into humanly visible light frequencies while at the time altering the visual capacities of onlookers they dont want to be able to view them (the spirit).

Q. another question is, if there are qualities of spirits, a range of "goodness", would those less good vibrate at a lower frequency of light than spirits that were "good/better/more obedient/kind"?

update: interesting article on cold dark matter and intelligent design suggesting detection of spirit matter as not possible with light or electromagnetism. (todo: read this article again)

but then there's this page called some thoughts on ghost hunting about camera film and infrared and ultraviolet light.

mormonism and the age of the earth

an interesting article about different possibilities for the age of the earth according to scripture and science.

particularly interesting is the multiple uses of the number 1000 (one thousand) in hebrew:
This follows the Hebrew use of "thousand" ('elef), which sometimes meant a literal one thousand, and other times was more generically used to indicate "a large amount."
it would be cool to see examples of both in use somewhere.

Inertiel - from the word inertia?

in the Clavicules du Roi Salomon is written:
Mertiel or Inertiel, transports you where you wish in an instant to another place or region.
when i first read this i immediately thought of the word inertia

Q. could Inertiel be related to the latin word iners (english: inertia) which means:
the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion.

my lemegeton book review

heres my review of the lemegeton - the complete lesser key of solomon, edited by mitch henson.

update: i recommend reading the testament of solomon before starting the lemegeton: http://ur1.ca/jvk6

the book apparently begins on page -1 because chapter 1 (the goetia: book 1) begins on page 3 and the introduction before that is 4 pages long. interesting.

page 0:
beyond that the idea that king solomon might have authored the text bears no discussion.

Q. so king solomon from the old testament didnt write this or this was not information he had in his possession?

page 1:
there is, of course, the famous story of how the two magicians met with bennett remarking that crowley had been messing with the Goetia, where crowley had replied he had done no such thing. later, crowley would, in fact, use the goetia for bennetts benefit.

Q. who are the 2 magicians? it seems to refer to a third person the way it is written with "the" and "remarking that crowley" (was crowley remarking that crowley?).

Q. how did crowley use the goetia for bennetts benefit? where can i find a reference to this story?

page 2:
(fyi) qlippothic refers to evil forces in the mystical teachings of Judaism, such as in the Kabbalah

page 22:
these be the seventy two mighty kings or princes which king solomon commanded into a vessel of brass with their legions.
i cant help but think of aladdin and the genie in the lamp when i read this.

Q. which story came first?

page 23:
prelates may be bound in any hour of the day
a prelate is:
a high-ranking member of the clergy who either is an ordinary or ranks in precedence with ordinaries. The word derives from Latin prælatus, the past participle of præferre, literally, "carry before," or "to be set above, or over," or "to prefer," hence a prelate is one set over others.
Q. i didnt see any spirits called prelates, so which of the 72 spirits are prelates? is prelate the same as prince?

update: the sacred-texts.com article classified list of the 72 chief spirits of the goetia, according to respective rank, seems to agree:
"Prince" and "Prelate" are apparently used as interchangeable terms.

the same goes for Counts:
counts or earls may be bound in any hour of the day...
none of the spirits are listed as Count.
Q. is a count the same as earl?

update: it seems so. a page called the ars goetia defines count as the same at earl, e.g.:
17. Count/President Botis
...
21. Count/President Marax
22. Count/Prince Ipos
...
27. Marquis/Count Ronove
note: the lemegeton spells marax as morax.

the circle of solomon is to be made nine feet across and the divine names are to be written around it from ehayou to levanah.
there is no mention earlier in the goetia, or the lemegeton for that matter, of divine names. as a side note, i noticed that ehayou is similar to spirit 14, lerayou. but then it refers to figure A3 to see the circle that solomon made. there is no ehayou or levanah in that figure.

Q. where is the list of divine names? is the original circle solomon made written in hebrew and are the english names in figure A3 just translated incorrectly?

update: looking at figure A3 again, in the inner most ring of names, the last one is spelled jevenah, so i assume that is levenah, but the closest thing i can find to ehayou is eleha. comparing it with the magic circle on esotericarchives.com, i see there that ehayou is spelled ehyeh.
the list of divine names in the lemegeton compared to esotericarchives.com and sacred-texts.com seem to differ:
divine names in lemegeton book, figure A3 (40 names):

page 24:
with the seal of the spirit on the other side of it?
Q. "other" meaning on the back side of it?

virgin parchment is
that which is taken from an Animal which hath not attained the age of generation, whether it be ram, or kid, or other animal.

page 25:
also a girdle of lions skin 3 inches broad, with all the names about it as are about the outermost round part of the circle.

Q. so the A3 figure is more original than the snake version? with the snake version there is no outermost circle because it winds like a spiral.

Q. so placement of the names is significant?

Q. in the oration and the conjurations, where do all these names of god, e.g. ancor, amacor, amides, come from?

page 26:
Q. why the different spellings of adonai and adonay?

Q. is tetragammaton a spelling error? further down on the same page and in figure A6 it is spelled tetragrammaton. it is spelled correctly on the esoteric archives lemegeton page.

Q. in the second conjuration, are these different names of god used in the hebrew text of the old testament?
it seems that many of these, if not all, are god's secret names according to this webpage list of angels. i found at least something on the name agla. one interesting thought i got from reading that page was that the letter a is the first and last letter in the name alpha and omega.

page/figure A6:
fyi
tetragrammaton == god
anaphexaton == god

page 28:
"from ally our office" should be "from all your office"
"into etemal fire" should be "into eternal fire"

Q. amaymon is the king over these 72 spirits (of which many are kings themselves, so amaymon is the king of kings?)?
it would be nice to see this hierarchy more clearly.

page 30:
assafoetidal (asafoetida)
has a pungent, unpleasant smell when raw...This spice is used as a digestive aid, in food as a condiment and in pickles. Its odour, when uncooked, is so strong that it must be stored in airtight containers; otherwise the aroma will contaminate other spices stored nearby. However, its odour and flavor become much milder and more pleasant upon heating in oil or ghee, acquiring a taste and aroma reminiscent of sautéed onion and garlic.

I condem [condemn] thee thou spirit N. into fire everlasting, because thou art disobedient and obeyd not the command, nor kept the precepts of the lord thy god...
this is potentially hypocritical because what if god did this to us when we were disobedient. good thing he doesnt jump to such conclusions, so why should we torment these already tormented spirits even greater?

page 34:
you may perceive by this figure that 20 of these kings have their first mansions and continue in one place, and that the other 11 are moveable and are sometimes in one place and sometimes in another...
this same figure is also referred to on page 33, but you have to go all the way to page B1 (after page 60), the compass theurgia.

Q. but no, i didnt perceive these things by this figure so which ones continue in one place and which ones are moveable? the compass is composed of 3 layers of stars: 7 points/spirits (top), 8 points (middle), 16 points (bottom).

spelling error here:
more inferior then the dukes
should be:
more inferior than the dukes

and now im confused because i just noticed that there are 4 additional names in the compass, written perpendicular to the star points, one name for each direction, north, east, south, west. now there are 35 names on the compass. ok i guess these 4 are spirits who are kings/princes/chief emperors, and the rest are lesser spirits.

page 62:
there is no mention of what the first hour of the day is called. on page 63 it says:
Anael -- the second hour of the day is called cevorym...
but for samuel it just says that:
the first hour of any day is ruled by the angel called samuel
every other hour of the day and night begins by stating what that hour is called.

Q. is samuel the same as the prophet samuel in the old testament, whom the witch of endor conjured?

Q. what does the lord of the ascendant mean? who is the lord and who is the ascendant? is samuel the lord and the ascendant is one of the 8 dukes mentioned? in the case of the conjuration of samuel, who is his lord? god?

Q. and what is the character of the lord of the ascendant? is this samuels character?:

this one differs from the one in the book in that the top left symbol in the book is the zodiac sign of taurus, it doesnt have the cross on the bottom of the circle, it is only a circle with horns on top. the one is this image is the symbol of the planet mercury.

after that the characters of the sign that ascendeth on the 12 house in that hour that is shown in this sigil which is fitted for the 10th day of march in the year 1641, being on a wednesday in the first house
wtf!?
* first of all i would put a comma here: after that, the ...
* is that supposed to be: the 12th house... ?
* which sigil?
* after the word sigil i get completely lost!

update: i got a clarification for my page 62 questions on the solomonic yahoo group forum

Q. can you only conjure samuel in the first hour of the day? dont they switch hours and responsibilities over time? if so, how do i find out who has what hour today?

page 64:
Q. the sixth hour of the day is called genapherim. it reminds me of cherubim and how it is translated wrong in the bible where it is referring once to a singular, when -im is plural. is this name also wrong?

page 66:
just noticed an odd inconsistency in the first sentence of each day (probably doesnt have any significance, but):

the 5th hour of every day...
the 6th hour of the day...
the 7th hour of the day...

the 10th hour of every day...
the 11th hour in every day...
the 12th hour of every day...

Q. spelling error? why the different spelling from samuel on page 62?
the same misspelling on pages 72 and 73

lds consecrating of olive oil and healing the sick

the wording and process for lds melchizedek priesthood holders to consecrate oil and heal the sick is found in the Duties and Blessings of the Priesthood: Basic Manual for Priesthood Holders, Part B, page 46.

The devil is not smart because he is the devil; he is smart because he is old.

an interesting quote by Ernest LeRoy Hatch, former president of the lds Guatemala City temple:
The devil is not smart because he is the devil; he is smart because he is old.

athena w writes on her magical services page:
I will evoke either an Angel or Daemon (please specify which) in a respectful manner to ascertain information for you. This information can be advice (remember spirits aren't omnipotent), information about an event, or specific information about a situation.
exactly. spirits (and in the case of the quote above concerning the devil) do not know everything, but they are wise because they have been around for so long and have seen us people for thousands of years and have seen how we operate, seen what we've done, etc., the same way i can usually quite accurately predict my own childrens behavior in many circumstances.

Q. what is "the nature of spirits, of the laws by which they are governed, and the signs by which they may be known"?

in the lds teachings of the prophets: joseph smith manual, in The gift of discerning of spirits allows the faithful to distinguish between the influence of good and evil spirits, joseph smith writes:
As we have noticed before, the great difficulty lies in the ignorance of the nature of spirits, of the laws by which they are governed, and the signs by which they may be known; if it requires the Spirit of God to know the things of God; and the spirit of the devil can only be unmasked through that medium...

Q. what is the nature of spirits, of the laws by which they are governed, and the signs by which they may be known?

Q. prenatal/premortal sin?

Q. is there such a thing as sinning in the pre-existence (when man was a spirit, before being born into a body)?

in lds doctrine Satan and his followers were cast out of God's presence because of rebellion, which one could classify as sin.

in the new testament in john 9:1-3 there's a scripture about a boy who was born blind and jesus' disciples asked if it was because he had sinned or because his parents had sinned and jesus answers "neither":
1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
premortal sin was obviously a concept they were familiar with.

Copyright violators will be cursed

im trying to make it a rule not to post frivolous/funny things, but this one was just too good. normally on websites and published works you see the warning Copyright violators will be prosecuted, but i think Joseph H. Petersons warning on his Clavicules du Roi Salomon, Par Armadel. Livre Troisieme. Concernant les Esprits & leurs pouvoirs page is more effective:
Copyright violators will be cursed!
LOL =)

the number 666 == DCLXVI == 1+2+3+...+34+35+36

there sure are a lot of interesting aspects surrounding the number 666:
* 666 is composed of each of the roman numerals under 1000 (M) in descending order
* if you add all regular numbers from 1 to 36 you get 666. it is a triangular number. i noticed that crowleys order called silver star is written A (3 dot triangle) A (3 dot triangle). fyi, the 3 dot triangle (quadrans, quadrantis) is a roman numeral for quarter (1/4 of a whole) and the closest way to write it on a keyboard is with an apostrophe in the middle: .'.
there are 2 quarters in the order name, 1/4 + 1/4 == 1/2 and 1/2 is composed of the numbers 1 and 2. 1+2 == 3, there are 3 dots in the quadrans. probably nothing significant, just interesting relationships.

Q. in liber vel legis it is written:
LIBER L. VEL LEGIS
SVB FIGVRÂ CCXX
AS DELIVERED BY
LXXVIIII VNTO DCLXVI

what/who is the 78 (LXXVIIII) that delivered it unto 666 (DCLXVI [crowley/man])?
what i've found so far on the number 78 is:
* the 78 degrees of wisdom

update 20100512

apparently the real number of the beast is 616 or 665. 666 is supposedly a mistranslation.

the funny thing is if you want to get 616 in roman numerals, it only differs from 666 by removing the L: DCXVI

questions i want answers to

in addition to these questions below there are other unanswered questions in other posts. here is an ongoing list of questions for the entities/god(s):

* is carbon dating accurate? i want to know this because christianity says that adam and eve, the first people, were "born" about 6000 years ago, but fossils of dinosaurs date to time periods of millions of years ago. then theres the whole neanderthal/evolution of man topic and records/writing claiming to be from people living over 10,000 years ago. can the adam and eve story be reconciled in any way with any of this?

* is the story of noahs ark true?
** where is noahs ark?

* was joseph smith really given gold plates by the angel moroni?

* is there really a resurrection after we die?

* what is dejavu?

* how is it possible to know of things to come (even though i believe this is possible)?

billy meier and 2012

i'm not hopping on any bandwagon here. read the pdf "Excerpt from the 476th Contact Report on the year 2012." found here: http://us.figu.org/portal/Documents/tabid/114/Default.aspx

it is an excerpt of a conversation between billy meier and Ptaah, a human lifeform from pleiades.

where/who to ask questions about mormonism - FAIR LDS

if you have a question about mormons/mormonism/the mormon church/the lds church/the church of jesus christ of latter day saints, i have found a good place online to ask is fairlds.org. they have a wiki and a contact form. but what is fair (source: wiki)?:
The Foundation for Apologetic Information & Research (FAIR) was formed in late 1997 by a group of Mormons in an attempt to defend their faith from detractors who frequented online message boards. Incorporated as a non-profit organization in November 1997, FAIR put up its first Web site in March 1998 and the FAIR Wiki in 2006.

disclaimer:
FAIR is staffed completely by volunteers. It is not owned, controlled by, or affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All research and opinions provided on this site are the sole responsibility of FAIR and should not be interpreted as official statements of LDS doctrine, belief, or practice.

you can also ask a mormon missionary questions online using live chat (but i recommend checking fairlds.org first).

my review of grimorium verum, edited and translated by joseph h peterson

grimorium verum (a handbook of black magic) book review

this is ongoing since i just got it today. just to be clear, when i say "review" i mean things i think are interesting or unclear to me the first time i read them. it is not a general summary of the book. that said, here are my thoughts and questions:

page ii:
since they are seen as having a subtle body of sorts, the threat of pain is also commonly used.
i was under the impression that spirits and demons were just spirits (unembodied). i have always learned that a spirit looks like a body, but since it doesnt have a body it cant feel physical pain. i thought immediately of a quote from Chapter 37: Understanding Death and Resurrection, Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young (page 273):
My spirit is set free, I thirst no more, I want to sleep no more, I hunger no more, I tire no more, I run, I walk, I labor, I go, I come, I do this, I do that, whatever is required of me, nothing like pain or weariness, I am full of life, full of vigor, and I enjoy the presence of my heavenly Father, by the power of his Spirit. I want to say to my friends, if you will live your religion, live so as to be full of the faith of God, that the light of eternity will shine upon you, you can see and understand these things for yourselves” (DNSW, 28 July 1874, 1).

Q. can spirits and/or demons feel pain? or is it just a mental/psychological pain (of which i believe spirits can experience, but since he mentions the subtleness of the demons body, im inclined to think he means physical pain)?

israel forbidden to do witchcraft, divination and necromancy

in the king james version of the fifth book of moses, deuteronomy chapter 18, verses 9-22 it states:
9 ¶ When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.
14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
15 ¶ The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
16 According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.
17 And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken.
18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken?
22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
here it is saying that the Lord God has given Israel a prophet instead of those listed in verses 10 and 11.

todo: check other translations

robert j. matthews, an lds professor in march 1974, made a compilation of scriptural references to witchcraft, etc in What the Scriptures Say about Astrology, Divination, Spirit Mediums, Magic, Wizardry, and Necromancy. it should be renamed to What the Bible Says about Astrology, Divination, Spirit Mediums, Magic, Wizardry, and Necromancy.

some more recent quotes can be found in an lds ensign (magazine) article about halloween:
Elder Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles warned of such activities when he told young men and women, “A warning: there is a dark side to spiritual things. In a moment of curiosity or reckless bravado some teenagers have been tempted to toy with Satan worship. Don’t you ever do that! Don’t associate with those who do! You have no idea of the danger! Leave it alone! And there are other foolish games and activities that are on that dark side. Leave them alone!” (Ensign, May 1989, 54).

President James E. Faust, while a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, counseled Latter-day Saints to avoid becoming intrigued by Satan and his mysteries: “No good can come from getting close to evil. Like playing with fire, it is too easy to get burned: ‘The knowledge of sin tempteth to its commission.’ … The only safe course is to keep well distanced from him and any of his wicked activities or nefarious practices. The mischief of devil worship, sorcery, casting spells, witchcraft, voodooism, black magic, and all other forms of demonism should be avoided like the plague” (Ensign, Nov. 1987, 33).

in Entrance into the Kingdom of God, by Bernard P. Brockbank he writes:
According to the apostle Paul, the following works of the flesh will keep a person out of the kingdom of God: "Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: … they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (Gal. 5:19–21)

bjarne christensen, in the lds ensign article of november 1972, the precarious age of aquarious, writes:
The first astrologers are believed to have been pagan priests in the ancient kingdom of Babylonia. In Biblical times, Isaiah, Daniel, and other prophets condemned those who told fortunes and practiced witchcraft as evil for calling on supernatural powers other than God.

Q. can spirits/ghosts/entities kill people?

what limits do spirits/ghosts/entities have, if any, on how they can affect us physically? i know they can move things and possess people, but can they directly kill a human?

i suspect they cannot, but it would be interesting to hear what other people have experienced.

aaron leitch's experiences with the abramelin holy guardian angel operation

i just found a rather detailed description by aaron leitch about the abramelin HGA operation. it is worth reading. also read athena w's experiences with the abramelin HGA operation.

Q. are there any mormons who have completed the operation?

necromancy in the old testament - king saul, witch of endor and prophet samuel

i have read the old testament before, but i do not remember this story about king saul asking a witch to summon the spirit of the dead prophet samuel. fascinating.

my review of the book of abramelin, a new translation

book of abramelin book review

this is currently ongoing. i just started reading it tonight (20100102 <-- hey, a palindrome =). to clarify it is the version called the book of abramelin, a new translation compiled and edited by georg dehn, translated by steven guth, foreward by lon milo duquette.

page xiv:
in order to wield god-like magical power, the magician must actually be possessed of god-like virtues of character
seems logical.

page 224:
the number of jews in the whole of germany after the black death and subsequent pogroms had dropped to an estimated 10000
fyi, the word pogroms is organized persecution of an ethnic group (especially Jews). it is also russian for destruction:
from Russian: погром; from "громить" IPA: [grʌˈmitʲ]- to wreak havoc, to demolish violently

page 233:
It is approached through the desert of from the al-Kola al-Hamra.
is that supposed to be or from?

page 261:
the book definitely has a Jewish characteristics.
is that has Jewish characteristics or has a Jewish characteristic?

page 263:
how would he have fit the somewhat gnostic gnostic material in abraham's four books into the mainstream of jewish scholarship?
Q. i assume "he" is referring to Scholem, but what does dehn mean by this?

i might add, of course, that jew ever called his son lamech
Q. why? because they use the "ben" fathers name format?

i was given the answer

we had some friends over for new years last night and we ended up playing the game where everybody has a name of a person (fantasy or real) taped to their forehead and the object is to ask "yes/no questions" until you figure out who "you" are. after i had asked like 3 questions i got an impression or a word was put into my head (3rd eye? i saw it and "heard" it: santa claus [the actual word was julenissen, but im translating it here]). i immediately second guessed and thought about asking an additional question, but then i decided to just go with what i felt i was given, my first impression, and i asked "am i santa claus?". yes.

i had a similar experience the day before where i got up in the morning and took a shower, then after i got out i guessed what the time was and then i second guessed myself, but then stopped myself and said that i would stick with my first impression and i was right. for some reason i am able to guess the time quite accurately, and i do it often.

one response to test those christians

in the mildly funny article test those christians it suggests a series of tests you can impose on a door knocking evangelist. the author begins with a description of an annoying situation:
Just when you get home for a private, intimate interlude with your lover comes the event stopping knock, knock of the True Christian. What the hell is a normal sane person to do? Go crazy, scream, defecate nude on the floor while in full view of the True Christian? No. We test them. As I presume that like me you are a non-believer too we can have a little fun.
first of all, if i was just about to make love to somebody, i certainly wouldnt answer my door i would just ignore it. i certainly wouldnt be willing to put something that joyous on hold. if they keep knocking or ringing the doorbell, then you just run over to the door and either yell through a nearby window for them to get lost or let out a dog or something, then get back to business =) save yourself some trouble to and hang up a "no solicitors" sign outside your door. so the article really is irrelevant for any intelligent person with better things to do with their time, but for those of you who arent i guess this is right up your alley and just might give you something to do on a lonely friday/saturday night...

the bottle of feces and urine test:
Ask your friend if they have cast out demons. Do they speak with tongues? Have they laid their hands on sick persons who were healed?

If so take a bottle from storage prepared especially for the test. It should be filled with (non)toxic, pukey looking stuff that smells to high heaven. Urine and excrement should do. Cap the bottle tightly while in storage. And for heavens sake wrap it in something to hide the mess from sight. In the Bible read Mark 16:17-18 which says that True Christians can pick up serpents and drink harmful things without suffering. Ask our unsuspecting testee to chug the whole bottle. If they object saying "thou shalt not test God" respond by saying that you are testing them, not God. God is not around to be tested anyway. If they don't chug-the-jug you can safely assume they are not a True Christian, only a fraud. Send them away.
friend?
"if so..."? as if casting out demons and healing people isnt impressive enough? =)
i think the author also assumes (and i agree) that this is an example of a moron, because nobody intelligent would submit himself to these silly tests and they would be able to see right through this guy and would just move on.
but for arguments sake and to teach the morons, how about these kind of responses?:
1. i can drink that, but i just dont want to. like you, im also interested in finding people who are genuine, so i dont have a lot of time to play games. have a nice day.
2. the scripture you cited mentions "deadly" so go get some ammonia and bleach and mix them together in the solution to make it really deadly. (do you think the guy really wants a dead guy on his porch? even if he does it you could just take the bottle to the police and say that the guy threatened you with this deadly gas bomb. after all it has his dna in the bottle. but i really suggest you just leave)
3. youre not testing me, you asking me to test god. its not me who will save me from poisons, it is gods power. as a true christian i choose not to test god. i choose to follow jesus' example on the pinnacle of the temple (from the temptation of christ). do you know the story? (youre now asking him the questions. you can then explain that jesus refused to test god when the devil asked him to throw himself off the temple so the angels would catch him.)
4. ok ill do it. and since you already accept and believe that i can cast out demons, speak in new tongues and heal people, then by me surviving this test you would then accept that i am a true believer, thus you believe in christianity (and the snake test is really not relevant since non-true-christians can do the same thing), so would you mind first driving with me to my lawyers office to sign a contract stating that you will give me your house and all you own (i am invoking upon you the previous test you invoked upon me about not denying those who ask)?

arguing, or rather, debating can be fun sometimes, but lets just not waste each others time. agreed? =) you usually will never convince anybody of anything. convincing is usually done by the individual himself after a good deal of contemplative afterthought.
