lon milo duquette's my life with the spirits - my book review

lon's autobiography, my life with the spirits, is witty, funny, humble and full of interesting stories and first hand experiences with magick. i couldnt and didnt want to put it down! i read it in two consecutive nights. i think if i were to pick the one greatest thing i learned from this book was his account of his first goetic evocation where he was giving the entity a deadline and felt that the entity was trying to change lon's mind to stretch the deadline and not make it so short and when he realized it he got angry and shouted and commanded the entity to stop and to obey his deadline. i recognize myself in that situation and thought "i can do the same thing", banish all doubt and creators of doubt. i control what i want. i control my mind. there are other things i learned from this book too. i definitely recommend it to everyone who isnt an omnipotent magickian (everyone) =)
i have not been so enraptured in a book since highschool, reading my double digit collection of dean r koontz novels (i dont read novels anymore).

where to buy gry jannicke jarlum's book called "du er jeg" - j-diva.no

i just got a mail from jannicke saying that her book can be purchased in her "web shop" on j-diva.no

but i just went there and there was some php error so i'm waiting to hear back from her.

du er jeg is a book about jannicke's lifelong experience with ETs. i saw an interview with her where she talked about her experiences and it seemed fascinating.

update: i was also able to order one from Kirsti _DOT_ Rekdal _AT_ kimsenteret _DOT_ no. i dont know how many copies she has access to.

my review of grimorium verum, edited and translated by joseph h peterson

grimorium verum (a handbook of black magic) book review

this is ongoing since i just got it today. just to be clear, when i say "review" i mean things i think are interesting or unclear to me the first time i read them. it is not a general summary of the book. that said, here are my thoughts and questions:

page ii:
since they are seen as having a subtle body of sorts, the threat of pain is also commonly used.
i was under the impression that spirits and demons were just spirits (unembodied). i have always learned that a spirit looks like a body, but since it doesnt have a body it cant feel physical pain. i thought immediately of a quote from Chapter 37: Understanding Death and Resurrection, Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Brigham Young (page 273):
My spirit is set free, I thirst no more, I want to sleep no more, I hunger no more, I tire no more, I run, I walk, I labor, I go, I come, I do this, I do that, whatever is required of me, nothing like pain or weariness, I am full of life, full of vigor, and I enjoy the presence of my heavenly Father, by the power of his Spirit. I want to say to my friends, if you will live your religion, live so as to be full of the faith of God, that the light of eternity will shine upon you, you can see and understand these things for yourselves” (DNSW, 28 July 1874, 1).

Q. can spirits and/or demons feel pain? or is it just a mental/psychological pain (of which i believe spirits can experience, but since he mentions the subtleness of the demons body, im inclined to think he means physical pain)?

occult literature

a lot of occult literature can be found free online in one place called esotericarchives.com. also check out the internet sacred texts archive. spiritualis librae also has some interesting info.

i also recommend reading the pages on enochian.org. athena seems to have much experience with magick.

in this list of specific books you'll notice things like the bible and the qur'an. this is because the occult is the search for truth and truth is not confined to just one place.

here's a list of religious texts.

here's my (ongoing) list of important texts:
the old testament
the new testament
vulgate
the book of mormon
doctrine and covenants
pearl of great price
qur'an (english)
lemegeton (clavicula salomonis) / the lesser key of solomon / Pseudomonarchia Daemonum / goetia
the satanic bible
the satanic scriptures
book of the sacred magic of abramelin the mage
777 And Other Qabalistic Writings of Aleister Crowley

i am finding that a lot of literature is available online, try searching for the title + pdf, e.g.:
lesser key of solomon pdf

a good idea is to read user reviews of books on amazon, and not just the 5 star ones, read them all. look for reviews with specifics and even recommendations of other books. i always start from the bottom (1 star reviews) then work my way up. exercise caution with books with only 5 stars from only a handful of reviewers.

witchcraft suggestions (i havent reviewed these myself yet):
The Horn of Evenwood by Robin Artisson
Mastering Witchcraft by Paul Huson
Call of the Horned Piper by Nigel Aldcroft Jackson
Masks of Misrule by Nigel Jackson

see also the list of occult and magick forums.

heres a list of recommended books from the yahoo group 6th & 7th books of moses
